Ongoing Journals

Nowadays, several journals in History of Medicine (and History of Science and Technology) are published in Spain.

This is one of the most important journals published in Spain. When the Institute of History of the Spanish National Research Council and by the Department of History of Science edited its first issue, in 1949, it was published under the title “Archivos Iberoamericanos de Historia de la Medicina”. Since then, the journal has had four different names, which identify four different periods. Nowadays, it is issued every six months.

All articles published in Asclepio are indexed, among other international databases, in the Art & Humanities Citation Index (Thompson ISI), Historical Abstracts and Francis.

Dynamis is an international journal devoted to the history of medicine, health and science and was founded in 1981. It pays special attention to novel and interdisciplinary historiographic perspectives. It was first edited by the History of Science Area, University of Granada in 1981, although it is now coedited by the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the University of Cantabria. It comes out twice a year.

All articles published in Dynamis are indexed, among other international data bases, in the Art & Humanities Citation Index (Thompson ISI), Historical Abstracts and Francis.

This journal has been edited by the Uriach Foundation 1938 since 1964. It has been through three periods (1964-1971, 1971-1978, 1984-1998) and broke into its fourth period in 1999. It comes out quarterly.

This journal has been edited since 1977 by the Spanish Society for the History of Science and Technology. It has been published every six months since 2005. All articles published in Llull are indexed, among other international data bases, in Historical Abstracts and Francis.

Frenia is a journal devoted to the History of Psychiatry. It has been published since 2001 with the scientific support of the Institute of History, Spanish National Research Council. Since 2005, it comes out yearly.

We must also mention the journals of History of Medicine which are no longer edited, despite having been published for a long period of time in some cases.

Cronos was first published in 1998 cronos1998. It was edited by the Department of History of Science and Documentation - Institute of Documentary and Historic Studies of Science, dependant on the University of Valencia and the Spanish National Research Council.

  • Trabajos de la Cátedra de Historia Crítica de la Medicina

reports1This was the first Spanish periodical publication in History of Medicine, although it was not of proffessional nature. It is a compilation of reports and essays developed in the Department of History of Medicine of the University of Madrid between the academic year 1932-1933 and the year 1936.

  • Cuadernos de Historia de la Medicina Española

These notes were published by the History of Medicine Seminar of the University of Salamanca journalsas it was run by Luis S. Granjel. It replaced the publications “Publicaciones del Seminario de Historia de la Medicina” (1956-1959) and “Estudios de Historia de la Medicina Española” (1959-1960).
